Analogue Magnetism Revisited

Published 29 Feb 2016 in physics.flu-dyn, astro-ph.CO, astro-ph.GA, astro-ph.SR, and physics.plasm-ph | (1602.09105v1)

Abstract: In this article we revisit the significance of the often debated structural similarity between the equations of electromagnetism and fluid dynamics. Although the matching of the two sets of equations has successfully been done for non-dissipative forms of the equations, little has been done for cases where the dissipative terms are non-negligible. We consider the consequence of non-negligible viscosity and diffusivity, and how the fine-tuning of these parameters could allow fluid dynamics to be used to indirectly study certain properties of magnetic fields.
