Distorted quarkonia and spin alignment

Abstract: We study both orbital and spin contributions to quarkonia spin alignment induced by magnetic field in heavy ion collisions. The orbital contribution arises from distortion of quarkonium spatial wave function, and the spin contribution is due to spin states mixing in the magnetic field. We find the spin contribution dominates in heavy ion phenomenology. The subleading orbital contribution offers the possibility of studying structure change of quarkonium in magnetic field.
