  • Marginal Decomposition with Requirements: For the problem of constructing a distribution over subsets whose marginals satisfy both elementwise and collective (set-based) probabilistic constraints, iterative algorithms successively allocate probability mass to deterministic supports (admissible support candidates), at each stage respecting active determinism (tight constraints) and making greedy probabilistic progress. The resulting projections and certificates have a sharp polyhedral characterization, and the whole system admits efficient algorithms under mild conditions on constraint structure (Matuschke, 2023).
  • Tensor Decomposition and Stochastic Optimization: Hybrid algorithms combine stochastic (randomized, e.g., SGD) and deterministic (alternating minimization or block coordinate) procedures for nonconvex optimization, improving both robustness to local minima and overall computational cost. For nonnegative Poisson CP tensor decompositions, transition from stochastic optimization to deterministic refinement achieves higher MLE convergence rates than either alone, and restart strategies leveraging deterministic criteria further boost performance (Myers et al., 2022).
