7. Challenges, Limitations, and Future Directions

  • Precision vs. Compactness: While explicit methods yield significant acceleration, fine-scale geometric detail and high frequency signals (e.g., sharp features, text) may require a large number of primitives unless frequency-adaptive or convex-based representations are used (Zhou et al., 7 Aug 2025, Held et al., 2024).
  • Dynamic Scene Support: The extension of these methods to time-varying content remains less explored compared to offline MLP-based NeRF models.
