Manipulation and creation of domain-wall skyrmions in chiral magnets

Published 27 Jun 2024 in cond-mat.mes-hall and hep-th | (2406.19056v1)

Abstract: We study the capture of a magnetic skyrmion into a domain wall (DW) structure in thin films of chirally magnetic type of materials like $[{\rm Pt}({\rm Co/Ni})_M/{\rm Ir}_N]$ and find that in the respective ground states of the DW and the skyrmion, they repel each other. However, rotating the DW's phase away from the stable phase using local external magnets may cause the successful capture and hence creation of a stable bound state of a magnetic skyrmion and a DW. We also find that inaccurate manipulation of the DW's phase may destroy the magnetic skyrmion by inducing its shrinkage. En passant, we find the possibility of pair creation of a skyrmion anti-DW-skyrmion pair and a creation of two skyrmions from a decaying meron pair (MP) on the DW. Finally, we contemplate the operation of capturing magnetic skyrmions into DWs as a part in a larger toolbox of spintronic applications, including memory and computing.
